Welcome to Ada Lovelace Day 2024!
Let our global celebration of women in science, technology, engineering and maths begin!
Hi there,
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, on Kiritimati Island where it has just turned midnight, Ada Lovelace Day has begun! The day of 8 October continues around the globe for a whole 50 hours, until it ends at midnight on Baker Island and Howland Island, so you have plenty of time to celebrate with us!
Don’t forget, our hashtag this year is #ALD24 on Bluesky, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook so do join in online! Post photos from your events, talk about the women in STEM you admire, and share your links to women’s biographies, books, podcasts or Wikipedia pages!
Ada Lovelace Day Live!
We are so excited for Ada Lovelace Day Live at the Royal Institution tomorrow night and hope you can join us! If you want to enjoy the very best STEM cabaret of the year, there’s still time to get your tickets now to come along in person or watch online.
The event is being recorded, so if you buy a livestream ticket but then can’t make it, you will have two weeks to catch-up afterwards.
Our magnificent speakers are:
Dr Evgenia Ilyinskaya — Fire saga: Is Iceland at the doorstep of centuries-long volcanic eruptions?
Mamta Singhal MBE — Engineering a rubber duck
Takita Bartlett-Lashley — Crafting calculations: Exploring mathematical artistry in fashion and design
Dr Samantha Terry — Can radioactivity cure cancer?
Joysy John MBE — Transforming teaching in the age of AI
Dr Sarah Bearchell — The Cloud Factory
Prof Anjali Goswami — The evolutionary truth about cats and dogs
And our compère is the fabulous science presenter and producer, Dr Sally Le Page!
Author Lisa Rajan will also be available to sign copies of her children's book, Tara Binns - Bright Spark Scientist during the hour before the performance.
Doors open at 18:30, so you’ll have plenty of time to grab a drink and browse our book stall to pick up a few early Christmas presents whilst enjoying the magnificent surroundings of the Ri before the performance starts at 19:30 BST.
You can find full details of our speakers over on our website and can pick up tickets for the theatre show or livestream from Eventbrite.
Ada Lovelace Day online video extravaganza
This year, we have delved deep into our archives to bring you 50 fascinating talks from Ada Lovelace Day Lives past. If you follow us on any of our four main social media accounts — Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or Bluesky — you’ll see a post every hour on the half-hour, or thereabouts, with a video from one of our previous speakers.
We have talks about everything from the maths of music to whether Jurassic Park could ever happen to the science of laughter. We make a comet nucleus live on stage, turn cream into ice cream in a matter of minutes, and set things alight with just the touch of a finger.
Or if you want to explore our video archives at your leisure, take a look at our YouTube channel.

Ada Lovelace Day in the media
Every year newspapers and magazines join in with or write about Ada Lovelace Day, and this year’s press coverage was kicked off by Kate Viscardi in her piece, Ada Lovelace: how her triumph in STEM made history.

Congratulations on the organisation again this year. I'll be watching online.
It's great to see events taking place around the world, and I'm looking forward to a dig through the archives too.
Just an aside that the links in 2nd paragraph take us to the #ALD23 hashtag.
