Welcome to Ada Lovelace Day 2023!
This year's celebration of women in science, technology, engineering and maths has begun!
Hi there,
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, on Kiritimati Island where it has just turned midnight, Ada Lovelace Day has begun! The day of 10 October continues around the globe for a whole 50 hours until it ends at midnight on Baker Island and Howland Island, so you have plenty of time to celebrate with us!
Don’t forget, our hashtag this year is #ALD23 on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook so do join in online!
Ada Lovelace Day Live!
We are so excited for Ada Lovelace Day Live at the Royal Institution tomorrow night and we hope you can join us! If you want to enjoy the very best STEM cabaret of the year, get your tickets now to come along in person or watch online.
Our magnificent speakers are:
Prof Jennifer Rohn, microbiologist
Dr Anjana Khatwa, geologist
Sophie Carr, mathematician
Dr Aarathi Prasad, geneticist
Dr Azza Eltraify, software engineer
Dr Antonia Pontiki, biomedical engineer
Rosie Curran Crawley, science presenter
And our compère will once again be the fabulous geek songstress, Helen Arney!
Dr Aarathi Prasad will be signing copies of her newest book, Silk: A History in Three Metamorphoses before the performance. Doors open at 18:30, so you’ll have plenty of time to grab a drink and browse our book stall whilst enjoying the magnificent surroundings of the Ri before the performance starts at 19:30 BST.
The event is being recorded, so if you buy a livestream ticket but then can’t make it, you will have two weeks to catch-up afterwards.
Ada Lovelace Day Online Extravaganza 2023
In addition to our STEM cabaret, we also have lots of inspiring stories about women in STEM from around the world coming out over the next 50 hours, including the stories of Dr Marie Poland Fish, oceanographer and marine biologist; “Brave Bessie” Coleman, the pioneering aviatrix; and Prof Isabella Abbott, the Hawaiian phycologist and ethnobotanist. Plus we’ll be looking at some of the best books by, for and about women in STEM that have been published over the last year or so.
We are so excited to share all the awesome blog posts that we’ve put together with you, so make sure you follow us on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
