ALD News: Ada Lovelace Day Live tickets on sale now!
Join us at the Royal Institution in London on Tuesday 8 October for a fabulous evening of STEMtertainment
Hi there,
Tickets for Ada Lovelace Day Live are on sale now, for both the in-person event and the livestream.
If you’ve always fancied coming along to Ada Lovelace Day Live, this year is a great year to make the trip to the Royal Institution in London. We have some absolutely fabulous talks lined up that you are going to love!
Our annual ‘science cabaret’ returns with a fantastic line-up of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), who will share their experiences, insights and expertise, inspiring and empowering the next generation of women and girls to pursue their passions.
Doors will open at 18:30 and you’ll be able to enjoy a drink at the cash bar, browse our book stall and even get a book signed by children’s author Lisa Rajan ahead of the performance, which starts at 19:30. Make sure to come along early to take in the amazing atmosphere of this historic and beautiful venue.
The show will be hosted by the fabulous science presenter, Dr Sally Le Page, and will feature:
Prof Anjali Goswami, a palaeobiologist who specialises in the evolution of animal shape, especially skulls. She has developed new mathematical approaches for reconstructing how and why animals look the way they do, now and in the past. Anjali will be talking about why cats are evolutionarily perfect.
Dr Evgenia Ilyinskaya, a volcanologist at the University of Leeds who researches volcanic emissions of gases and aerosols, and their impacts on air quality, the environment and people’s wellbeing. She’ll be talking about the Grindavík eruption in Iceland (which looks like it's about to blow again!).
Takita Bartlett, a mathematician whose work at the intersection of STEM, fashion and education explores the creative applications of maths and technology across fashion and design. Takita will be talking about using crafts to introduce mathematical concepts to children.
Dr Samantha Terry, a radiobiologist whose research seeks to determine how different types of radioactivity can be best used in the clinic. She’ll be talking about the use of targeted radionuclide therapy in cancer treatments.
Dr Sarah Bearchell, a science writer, presenter and trainer, and winner of the 2024 Beetlestone Award for Leadership and Legacy in Informal Science Learning. Sarah will be creating clouds live on stage, with the help of some volunteers from the audience!
Joysy John MBE, a software engineer, education entrepreneur and edtech advisor who has launched three non-profits focused on education. Joysy will be talking about the role of technology in education.
Children’s author Lisa Rajan will also be on hand to sign copies of her book, Tara Binns - Bright Spark Scientist: With scientists going missing and experiments going wrong, can Tara Binns save the lab with her bright ideas?
You’ll be able to buy copies of this and other books by, for or about women in STEM, from Newham Bookshop on the night.
